New for 1997 is the American Air Museum, a remarkable new exhibition building, presenting a superb collection of aircraft reflecting the history of American air power and its influence on the twentieth century.
Duxford museum is an extensive collection of aircraft and other military equipment housed in large hangars. At one end of the site is a hangar containing the TSR2, Sunderland flying boat, a Vulcan V-bomber, Concorde and many other interesting types. This hangar also includes the main souvenir shop and flight simulator. At the other end of this impressive site is the new American Air Museum and the Land Warfare Hall featuring over fifty tanks and armoured vehicles arranged in a series of battlefield scenes that you can actually walk through.
Outside there are static aircraft, some are open for public viewing. There is also an opportunity for visitors to take to the air in an elegant 1930's biplane airliner.
The museum is part of the airfield and a small transit vehicle provides visitors with free transport about the museum site.
