CANADA

 

Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum

The collection includes the Avro Lancaster, Bristol Bolinbroke, B25-J Mitchell, Fairey Firefly Mk5, Spitfire MkXVI, Hawker Hurricane and many more. The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is a living museum featuring the aircraft used by Canadians or Canada's Military from the beginning of World War II up to the present. The Museum's collection includes aircraft that really fly and several that remain on static display and are interactive workshops.

The museum strives to allow the visitor to experience and interact with the displays. The Museum offers the visitor an educational experience that will take them back through Canadian history. The Museum has interactive video displays, movies, photographs and memorabilia from Canadian History.

Open daily (mon to Sun) 9am to 5pm.

Located at 9280 Airport Road, Mount Hope at the Hamilton International Airport west of Toronto.

Royal Canadian Air Force Memorial Museum,Trenton,Ontario

 

The Royal Canadian Air Force, (RCAF) Memorial Museum is located in Quinte West (Trenton) Ontario. The museum was established in 1984, and was subsequently designated as the national Air Force museum. It is especially dedicated to the memory of those airmen and airwomen who gave their lives in both peace and war.  

Unlike traditional Air Force museums, which recognize the actions of specific units and their activities, the RCAF Memorial Museum presents a comprehensive overview of all Air Force contributions. It is primarily a social history museum, with the focus being on the people who served, rather than on the technology that helped them to do their job. The museum has increased in space to accommodate the WWII Mark VII Halifax bomber NA 337, currently being restored by Museum volunteers. Indoor housing of the newly restored Halifax  extension  will prevent deterioration of a priceless artifact, and will also make it accessible to visitors throughout the year. It is only one of three Halifaxes to have survived the war, and the only one to exist in North America. The restored bomber will be a fitting tribute to the 50,000 RCAF personnel who served in Bomber Command, 10,000 of whom gave their lives.

FRANCE

Musee de l'Air et de l'Espace (Air and Space Museum)

The Air and Space Museum is located at Le Bourget airport in Paris. The museum comprises five large halls; The "Grande Galerie" with an exhibition of the balloon age, an authentic 1896 Chanute glider, a replica Bleriot XI, a Deperdussin monocoque, a 1916 Spad VII and an impressive nacelle from a 1917 Zeppelin LZ 113. On the tarmac there are two real size space launchers, the Ariane I and Ariane V, together with a collection of civil and military aircraft. In the Concorde Hall is the prototype Concorde 001, a Mirage IV, P47 Thunderbolt and a P51 Mustang. The Hall of Prototypes includes a Triton SO 6000, the first French jet plane built in 1946, The Luduc 010, the first plane to fly with a ramjet built in 1940 and a Trident, a jet and rocket propelled aeroplane. There is also a collection of the main French Air Force fighters since the 1950's, a transparent mock-up of a Mirage F1, a Super Sabre F100 and a North American T6 training plane. The hall also includes a free cinema showing an aviation 3D movie. In the Hall of the 1919-1939 period and light aeroplanes there is a fuselage of a 1919 Farman F60 "Goliath" and several modern light aircraft including the Cri-Cri. The Space Hall is currently under renovation and is expected to be reopened to the public towards the end of 1998.

Opening Hours: November to February open from 10.00 and 17.00 (closed Christmas and New Year).
March to October open from 10.00 to 18.00.

The Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon

Montrose Air Museum

The Montrose Air Museum is located at Montrose airfield one of the oldest in Scotland. The museum is dedicated to the RFC and RAF; all artifacts are housed in the original RAF headquarters building.

Fantasy of Flight, Polk City, Florida, USA

The Fantasy of Flight takes you from the beginning of aviation to present day through a number of realistic settings before you walk into the gigantic hangar full of airplanes from the Golden Era of Flight, including a Ford Tri-Motor, B-26 Matauder, B-24 Liberator, Short Sunderland flying boat and a P-51 Mustang. Created by Kermit Weeks who is often seen flying one of the planes as a demonstration. The museum includes the Compass Rose Restaurant for meals and snacks. Located just 20 minutes west of the Walt Disney World resort and 10 miles northeast of Lakeland at exit 21 off I-4 at Polk City between Orlando and Tampa, Florida. Open daily 9:00am to 5:00pm (hours may vary seasonally).

Tom Reilly's Flying Tigers Warbird Restoration Museum, Florida, USA

The Flying Tigers Museum allows visitors a chance to see, smell and touch the history that many only heard about on newsreels in the forties. Here you can see the restoration process take place with guided tours of the latest vintage aircraft being restored to their original graceful form by experienced craftsmen. The museum is located at Kissimmee Municipal Airport along N. Hoagland Boulevard (Airport Road). Open Daily 9:00 to 6:00pm daily (except Sunday 9:00am to 5:00pm).

Valiant Air Command Warbird Air Museum, Florida, USA

Historic displays and authentic military aircraft. Stroll through a huge collection of aviation memorabilia, extensive displays of vintage of military flying gear, uniforms and artwork. Located on the Tico Road at the Space Coast Regional Airport, Titusville, Florida. From I-95, Exit 79 follow RT 405 east towards Kennedy Space Centre. Open daily 10:00am to 6:00pm (except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's day).

Wedell-Williams Memorial Aviation Museum of Louisiana, USA

Wedell-Williams Memorial Aviation Museum of Louisiana, located on the Harry P. Williams Memorial Airport, Patterson, Louisiana, USA, in cajun country. Official state aviation museum of Louisiana dedicated to pioneer aviators James Wedell and Harry Williams. Wedell-Williams Air Service designed and manufactured the famous "Model 44" which set the world speed record in 1933 - 305.33 mph. Other Louisiana aviators, events and businesses spotlighted.

The Virginia Aviation Museum is a division of the Science Museum of Virginia. This shrine to the golden age of aviation enhances the Science Museum's aerospace exhibits with its extensive collection of vintage flying machines.

Museum of Flying in Santa Monica, California, USA

The Museum of Flying, located in Santa Monica, California, houses a rare collection of World War II fighter aircraft. The majority of the aircraft within the collection are in flight ready condition and frequently take part in air races across the US.

The Museum of Aviation, USA

The Museum of Aviation is located south of Atlanta, only seven miles east of I-75, near Robins Air Force Base. From I-75, take Exit 146 heading east on Watson Blvd (Hwy 247 Connector) through Warner Robins. Watson Blvd will dead end into GA Hwy 247. Turn right and go south for two miles. The Museum is on the left. From I-16, take Exit 24 to GA Hwy 96. Go west on GA Hwy 96 to GA Hwy 247. Turn right on GA Hwy 247. Go approximately three miles. The Museum of Aviation is on the right.
